Realm of Light, Silence, and Unbearable Beauty
A realm suspended between layers of mirrored air and glass fields. Sunlight never fades, but casts no warmth. Where there is physical land it is a vast open, golden grassland under a bright, cloudless sky where the sun burns brightly but the air is chilled.
Time seems to loop endlessly. Those who have been there report one day of captivity being exactly like the next as days replay exactly from one to the next. Although the concept of a day itself is somewhat strange as it is never night.
All those who have been taken to the Pale Country seem to have been taken for some sort of artistic talent. Indeed, most kidnappings occur at some sort of artistic event: a gallery opening, opera, ballet or even music festival. Those who are lucky enough to return all share the same characteristics: all are now narcissistic, obsessed with mirrors, all more graceful than they previously were but in an odd sort of way that can’t be readily explained, and they all now never blink, and need very little sleep.
