Mire Court

Realm of Marsh, Fog, and Still Things That Watch
The Mire Court is the Realm of Faylinn about which most is known. Not surprising as it was the Hoo Incident of 1787 on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula which led to the formation of the FDG itself.

Those escapees who remember anything of their time at the Mire Court all describe it as a dim, lowland realm where grass grows higher than people, and the ground squelches beneath every step. Everything is soft and swallowing—bogs that whisper names, mud that remembers your weight, fog that rearranges paths. Day never fully breaks. Twilight reigns eternally.
It’s quiet—too quiet—except for the occasional croak, hum, or bubbling sigh.

The Mire Court seems to abound in strange flora and fauna – many of which have been recorded by the FDG. Strange plants with medicinal or other useful properties have been found.

Those who have returned often have no recollection of their being taken anywhere. They seem to have forgotten where they were and just awoke in the Mire Court, or became lost in an autumn fog while out walking and ended up in an entirely different place from where they started. One common theme among disappearances to this realm concerns a figure known in legend as ‘The Heron Prince’ whose presence often indicated an imminent birth or death. The Heron Prince is also thought to be responsible for the taking of babies to the Mire Court.

Sometimes, people just become unfindable. No reported disappearance, no death, nothing suspicious – just an absence. It is thought that these have disappeared into the Mire Court, but as they often have no one to notice they have gone, their absence is also not noted by the FDG. Hence it is thought that the Mire Court are responsible for a great many more disappearances than are documented. After a very short time, all collective memory of such individuals seems to just disappear as if sunk into the marshland. New people appear in their houses, photos of them disappear: it is as if they had never existed.

Although openings to Faylinn occur at any time, the Mire Court definitely seems to be much closer to our world during the autumn when the mists roll in across the marshes from the Thames estuary.
