Not a realm at all as such as Emberdeed does not exist as a physical landscape at all to those very few individuals who have encountered it and survived. Emberdeep seems to exist in fire – wherever that may occur, although it may be that this is a realm of Faylinn that is still in the process of creation and so there is little to describe of it at present.
FDG research with individuals using hypnosis, dream therapy and mining accompanied with research into ancient religious and magical texts has only managed to establish a little knowlege of the Emberborn.
They are believed to be a faction of Fae exiles who were once part of a greater realm. They were cast out for embracing destruction as a path to purity.
They hid in fire—not in the flames themselves, but in the moment of passage between worlds when fire transforms matter into ash, smoke, or light. They exist in that split-second change-state, made permanent.
Over time, the Emberdeep formed around them—part realm, part purgatory, and it is still growing and changing.
Those who have been taken to the Emberdeep have all been taken in one of two ways:
- Spontaneous combustion in which no trace whatsoever of the human body remaining. If this has not been observed, then the only evidence that it has happened may be burnt furniture or items of clothing, or a scorched outline of a body on the ground.
- Disappearance after walking into a fire, again leaving so evidence of any burning, or any trace of a human body – alive or dead, burned or otherwise.
In either case, the disappeared may have spoken of what was to happen to them in the days or weeks beforehand. Some have become mentally disturbed, talking of dreams of burning children wanting to dance or play with them. Some have warned that they are in danger and that something is coming for them.
To date, only five people have ever successfully been returned from Emberdeep: of those two died shortly afterwards and one was never able to speak again as a result of their trauma.
