The Last Knot

Description: A length of ancient rope, twisted and blackened with age, tied into a complex, inhuman knot. The strands are frayed in places, and a faint, musky odor clings to the fibers, like smoke and wet straw. The knot itself seems to defy traditional patterns, bending in ways that should be impossible given the rope’s stiffness.

Acquisition: Found around the neck of a scarecrow in 1911, hanging from an old oak tree in a Sussex field. The tree’s bark had twisted into faces around the rope, as if the wood itself had recoiled from the touch of the knot. Local reports suggested that the field had been plagued by ghostly figures for years, their outlines visible even on the brightest days.

Known Effects: The rope’s knot cannot be untied, despite numerous attempts by both human and fae experts. It has a peculiar effect on memory, causing those who attempt to undo it to forget their intentions after just a few minutes. It is said to bind not just physical objects, but also memories and souls.

Current Location: Hung on a reinforced iron hook in the deep storage section of the vault, behind a locked steel door marked with the FDG’s most severe warning symbols.
