Echo-Bark Trees

Classification: Psychic-Resonant Sentinel Tree
Location: Densest thickets of the Briar Reaches, often near hidden fae dwellings

Description:
These tall, silver-barked trees shimmer faintly as if holding dew at all times. Their bark is smooth, but engraved with looping runes that change when unobserved. Their leaves emit no sound, even in wind.

Properties:
Echo-Barks record spoken words and replay them at random—often years or decades later. Some whispers are truthful echoes. Others are fabrications, twisted recollections, or prophetic speech in disguise. It is unclear whether the tree lies or is simply confused.

Lore:
Fae of the Briar Reaches sometimes plant Echo-Barks around their courts as both spy and sentinel. Mortals who sleep near one may wake remembering secrets not their own.

Uses:
Echo-Bark slivers, when brewed into tea, can grant short bursts of clairaudience, allowing a user to hear what is being said miles away—or long ago. However, there is no guarantee what they hear is true.

Warning:
Those who spend too long near an Echo-Bark may begin speaking only in replayed phrases, gradually losing their own voice.
