Briarhound

Aliases: The Thorn-Hound, Root-Wolf, The Oathbreaker’s End

Description:

A quadrupedal fae construct formed of twisted root, thorn, and soil. Size varies between large hound and small pony. Eyes glow amber-green; breath exudes spores. Tracks marked by bloodied impressions and patches of sprouting nettle.

Nature and Behaviour:

Bred by the Thorn-Wife as both guardian and executioner. Responds to the scent of broken promises and oathbound magic. Never speaks, only growls or exhales wind that mimics human screaming.

Those bitten by the Briarhound develop creeping vine infection beneath the skin. Within days, victims sprout thorns internally, often fatally.

Field Notes:

The creature can pass between hedge shadows, suggesting partial phase displacement. Iron filings disrupt its cohesion temporarily. One captured thorn was observed to move autonomously for 36 hours post-extraction.

Containment Protocols:

Avoid vocalising promises or agreements within hedged terrain. In case of pursuit, burn ground cover and use raw iron as barrier. Do not attempt direct engagement.
