Zora Petranová

Alias: The Girl Who Hears the Roots
Origin: Slovakia → Kent, England (1990s)
Age When Taken: 8
Current Age: 35

Before Captivity:
Zora was the daughter of seasonal migrant workers from Slovakia, spending summers helping pick fruit in Kent’s orchards. Quiet but perceptive, she had a habit of lying face-down in the grass and “listening to the ground.” One July afternoon, she wandered into the treeline at the edge of a plum orchard and didn’t return. Her family searched for days before giving up hope.

In Faylinn:
Zora was taken underground into a hollow realm where trees grew upside down and roots whispered riddles into the soil. She served as a “listener” to the Orchard Court—a role akin to a living stethoscope. The fae would press enchanted seeds into her palms, and she’d place her ear to the earth to divine whether the fruit would bloom love, fear, or sleep. Her ears became tuned to vibrations deeper than sound—emotions beneath language.

After Return:
She reappeared at a Kent train station during a thunderstorm, barefoot and soaked, holding a bunch of wildflowers with roots still writhing. Her parents had long since returned to Slovakia. Now a fluent adult speaker despite disappearing as a child, she was quietly passed to FDG custody.
She works in botanic rehabilitation zones, helping identify plants with dangerous resonance. She never uses phones. Says she “can hear them humming lies.” Sometimes, she still lies on the ground and listens.

Scars:
Both earlobes are faintly marked with spiral growths—like wood grain
Has trouble walking on pavement; prefers bare feet on soil
Claims she can hear people’s “seed thoughts”—the emotion buried deepest
