The Drowned Namepin

“Pinned to your chest like it was always yours.

A rusted brooch or lapel pin, usually found stuck to old sailor uniforms or burial shrouds. The Drowned Namepin bears a name that no one recognises, not even the person wearing it.

The moment it touches fabric, the wearer begins referring to themselves by that name in writing, speech, and thought. Loved ones may begin to believe it too—until the person’s original name fades entirely.

Some believe the pins are castoffs from drowned souls who couldn’t bear to vanish nameless. Others say they’re traps—tokens that make you inherit a death not your own.

Institute stores recovered pins in isolation vaults. One staff member reportedly signed an official report with the name “Merrin Grey” despite no record of such an identity.
