Role: Veteran Agent and Field Operations Leader
Background: Cormac “Mac” Doyle was born in Belfast at the height of the Troubles, growing up in a fractured city where violence was a daily reality. He enlisted in the British Army at 18, seeking structure and purpose. During a mission in the early 1980s, Mac’s entire squad vanished while pursuing a suspected IRA cell into an abandoned textile mill. Only Mac emerged, found days later wandering the hills outside the city, gaunt and raving about flickering lights and twisted whispers. The incident was classified as a ‘traumatic stress event,’ but Mac remembers the truth—his squad crossed a fae boundary and were taken, leaving him the only survivor. Whatever he encountered left its mark, and he returned not quite the same, his eyes a shade too sharp, his hearing a fraction too keen.
Skills: Expert in close-quarters combat, survival, and unconventional warfare. Mac is also skilled in fae countermeasures, including the use of iron, salt, and certain fae deterrent runes. He keeps a small pouch of cold iron nails sewn into his jacket lining and wears a braided cord of red thread around his wrist—a gift from a Roma woman who claimed it would keep the shadows at bay.
Personality: Gruff, practical, and fiercely protective of his team. Though he rarely speaks of his past, those who have seen him in action know he is deeply superstitious and never turns his back on a threshold. He is known for his dry, sardonic sense of humor and a relentless work ethic.
Motive: To atone for the loss of his squad and ensure no one under his command is ever taken again. Despite his rough exterior, Mac carries the weight of survivor’s guilt and a simmering distrust of the fae.
