John Carver

➤ Alias: The Man Who Cast No Shadow
➤ Origin: Kent woodland surveyor, 2010s

Before Captivity:
John was a meticulous man—quiet, grounded, a skilled land surveyor mapping the edges of ancient forests for road projects. He and his wife were expecting their first child. In 2012, he stepped into a ring of stones in a clearing to take a measurement. Mid-call, he disappeared.

In Faylinn:
John became a pathfinder in the shifting roads of Faylinn—a walker of impossible places. His shadow was removed, used as a living marker by the fae to trace safe routes through their realm. Without it, John drifted, unmoored from direction and from self. In its absence, he could no longer tell time, or true north, or sometimes even what was real. When the fae had no more use for his footprint, they let him go.

After Return:

He reappeared five years later, barefoot, unchanged, eyes hollow. No matter the light, he casts no shadow. Cameras struggle to capture him. He often walks without remembering why, ending up in places he doesn’t recall heading toward. He now works nights, avoiding others, carrying maps with no names drawn on them.
