Subject: Dr. Alan Greaves, 54, botanist
Location: Edge of Oldhurst Forest, near derelict railway
Summary:
Following retirement, Dr. Greaves began cultivating unusual forest plants in his private garden—many of which have no known biological counterpart. Neighbours reported singing heard at night and “flowers that watch you.” When the Institute investigated, Greaves was found catatonic, surrounded by Ash-Weep Blooms and twisted fences of silvered vine. In his greenhouse: a map of the Reaches, made from petals and pinned with memory-tags.
Institute Findings:
- Greaves had been corresponding with a known fae-broker in Hollow Thimble
- His watering can contained liquified regret harvested from Bloodbloom
- Repeated use of Thorn Mother’s imagery in journal notes
Status:
Transferred to a secure care wing. Only speaks when within sight of wild plants. Once whispered: “They grow best when you forget the names.”
Note:
Garden was burned under Institute order. The next morning, it had regrown—twice as large, and with three new varieties catalogued in no existing record.
